Weslaco man gets 25 years for 2017 fatal ambush shooting at Alamo strip club

Miguel Angel Uvalle

A Weslaco man accused of shooting and killing a 41-year-old man at a strip club in 2017 pleaded guilty on March 20 and has been sentenced to prison.

Miguel Angel Uvalle, 46, received 25 years in prison with over five years in credit for the death of Angel Sanchez, who was shot and killed at the LipZtick Gentleman’s Club in Alamo on Oct. 1, 2017.

Uvalle was scheduled to appear before state District Judge Bobby Flores Thursday, but court records show Uvalle had already pleaded guilty.

According to the initial sheriff’s department news release, authorities believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing personal dispute between both men.

Police said Sanchez was “ambushed by a gunman” when walking out of the club’s restroom.

Uvalle’s sentencing follows his nephew’s guilty plea. Gabriel Hernandez, 27, pleaded guilty in 2019 and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Hernandez had been arrested in Gonzalez, Louisiana after he turned himself in once he had been located by the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force and Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office investigators.
