Gamez co-authored bill gives tax exemptions to women’s products

Erin Elizabeth Gámez

AUSTIN — The Texas House of Representatives has passed House Bill 300 by Representative Donna Howard, whose district includes Austin, and co-authored by state Rep. Erin Elizabeth Gámez, whose district includes Brownsville, relating to an exemption from sales and use taxes for certain family care items.

The Speaker-priority bill will now be sent to the Texas Senate.

“I am proud to be a co-author of HB 300,” Rep. Gámez stated. “This bill will benefit all Texas families, including those in House District 38, by exempting essential baby items such as diapers and wipes along with feminine hygiene products from the state’s sales tax.”

“This will provide much needed tax relief to mothers and families in our state, regardless of if they rent or own their home,” she stated. “I hope that our counterparts in the Senate will match the House’s expediency in passing this bill and quickly deliver it to the governor’s desk.”
