We believe that Roma ISD students will be directly served by the suggested facility improvements as they advance through Roma ISD’s secondary schools in the next three decades.
Roma school district voters will decide in May whether nearly $42 million in bond projects move ahead.
The district’s board voted in February to call for a bond election split into three propositions totalling $41.92 million that would include a variety of renovations and additions, a news release said.
According to the release, Proposition A would fund expanding the Roma High School band building; upgrading that school’s softball stadium; building a new gym at F. J. Scott Elementary; creating new outdoor learning spaces at all elementary schools; and relocating the district’s transportation department for a little more than $8.3 million.
Proposition B would fund upgrades to the Roma High School football stadium — such as a bleacher expansion, new restrooms, concession stands and dressing rooms — for a little more than $8.8 million.
Lastly, Proposition C would pay for a new black box theater, CTE classroom spaces and other meeting spaces for $24.76 million.
“Our School Board worked alongside administrators, staff, architects, and financial advisors to study the school district’s facilities to plan for the future, and the findings of that study are the result of the three propositions,” Roma ISD Superintendent Carlos M. Gonzalez Jr. wrote in the release. “We believe that Roma ISD students will be directly served by the suggested facility improvements as they advance through Roma ISD’s secondary schools in the next three decades.”
The district says 61% of the bond would be paid for by the state.
Roma ISD will be hosting live streamed informational sessions via its Facebook page on April 5 and 19, and more information is available on the Roma ISD website.
The election is May 6.
