This is kind of one of the late season cold fronts so maybe the last chance for cooler weather.
Spring Break week will end with much cooler weather, as a cold front is expected to push through the Rio Grande Valley on Friday morning.
A cold air mass from Canada will arrive in the Valley between 8 and 11 a.m. Friday dropping temperatures into the 70s, said Brian Miller, senior meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley.
Once the cold front pushes through, northerly winds at about 20 to 30 mph will remain.
“This is kind of one of the late season cold fronts so maybe the last chance for cooler weather,” Miller said.
Rain chances will accompany the cold front with rain expected early Friday morning through about 3 p.m.
Some rumbles of thunder could also occur, Miller said.
The overnight lows will be in the 50s.
It will be much cooler on Saturday and Sunday during the day with the highs in low to mid 60s. The overnight lows will be in the 50s.
“It’s going to stay cloudy through the weekend with a slight chance of rain. We are going to be in that gray, cloudy, cool weather pattern where we can see some light rain off and on through the weekend,” Miller said.
One-quarter of an inch of rain is expected Friday through Sunday.
Miller said there’s a chance the forecast may change, and it will be a little bit cooler.
“With these shallow air masses those happen frequently, where the long range models don’t pick up on the colder air until we get within a couple of days of the front’s scheduled arrival,” he said.
However, before the cold front arrives, Valley residents will have to continue to deal with warm temperatures with the highs on Thursday being the warmest between 85 to 96 degrees.
Wednesday’s highs will be between 76 to 83 degrees with a slight chance of rain.
