Mission and McAllen offer Spring Break activities for families

Children need to have fun and enjoy their spring break, which is why we have created this event. There is no need to travel to have a good time.

If your Spring Break plans this year include spending the week at home, there are plenty of events happening in Mission and McAllen to keep families entertained.

Quinta Mazatlan in McAllen will hold a “Keep Kids Wild” program with five events scheduled Tuesday through Saturday. The programs are free with your park admission. The cost is $3 for adults, $2 for children and children ages two and younger get in free.

>> Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. – Family Birding;

>> Wednesday: 10 a.m. to noon – Trails & Tots;

>> Thursday: 10 a.m. to noon- Soapberry Soap Making;

>> Friday: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. – Cooking with Natives;

>> Saturday: 10 a.m. to noon – Drop In for Steam Stops.

The city of Mission is offering free “Play in the Park” events at three of its parks that will feature face painting, board games, a petting zoo, music, moon jumps, refreshments and more.

“We are excited to be back this year with such a wonderful event,” Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza said in a news release. “Children need to have fun and enjoy their spring break, which is why we have created this event. There is no need to travel to have a good time. Instead, they can visit the park closest to them and enjoy plenty of activities. It is a safe space; even our police and fire department will be out there interacting with the children.”

The free events will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., March 13, 15 and 16 at the following locations:

>> Astroland Park, 115 South St. Marie;

>> Nell Tolle Park, Adams St. & Blake St;

>> Bannworth Park, 1822 N. Shary Road.
