A strong cold front that will pass through the Rio Grande Valley Thursday night bringing lower humidity and gusty northwesterly winds has prompted the issuance of a Red Flag Warning for parts of the Valley.

A Red Flag Warning issued for southern and northern Hidalgo County and inland Cameron and Willacy counties will be in effect from 11 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, the National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley reported.

The NWS reports cured fuels and moderate to severe drought conditions could lead to rapid and erratic spread of wildfires Thursday night.

The conditions are expected to improve Friday morning, as the winds die down.

Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected and relative humidity could drop to as low as 14%, according to the NWS.

The NWS reports any fires that develop will likely spread quickly and that outdoor burning is not recommended.
