Brownsville police are investigating the third homicide in a week, with the latest death happening Saturday night.

Francisco Muniz, 47, remained jailed Sunday at a Cameron County facility on one count of murder and one count of aggravated assault. His bonds total $600,000.

Muniz is accused of shooting his neighbor in an apparent dispute between the two, said Investigator Michael Parker, spokesman for Brownsville Police Department.

The incident occurred Saturday night at the 1000 block of East Taylor Street.

Police were sent to the location in reference to a person who had been shot and when they arrived there, they found the victim lying on the floor, Parker said.

Although medical attention was given to the victim, he died from his injuries, Parker said.

As police investigated the shooting, they learned that an altercation between Muniz and the victim had occurred, which ended with the victim being shot.

Although a second victim was involved, that person was not injured.

Muniz was placed under arrest.

On Tuesday, police charged Jose David Garcia, 17, with murder.

Garcia’s accused in the shooting death of Martin Leal 33, who was found unresponsive Monday evening at 340 East Adams St. He had been shot.

Longoria was found by a neighbor who said he went outside when he heard what sounded like fireworks, Parker said.

EMS personnel were sent to the location and transported Longoria to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, Parker said.

On Monday, the burned body of Kassandra Yvette Roquemore, 25, was found near FM 511.

Police responded to a call of a grass fire on FM 511 where they met with a concerned citizen who tried to extinguish the grass fire. As he was extinguishing the fire, he discovered Roquemore’s body and called police, police said.

An autopsy on Roquemore is pending. An investigation into her death continues.
