Hang on tight to those steering wheels, hats and dresses as strong winds are affecting parts of the Rio Grande Valley.

A wind advisory is in effect until at least 6 p.m. today for southern Hidalgo County and inland Cameron and Willacy counties, the National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley reports.

According to the NWS, south winds 25 to 35 mph with wind gusts of up to 45 mph are anticipated, and there’s a possibility the advisory could be extended to the overnight hours.

The strong winds could blow around unsecured objects.

Tree limbs could be blown down, and there’s a possibility that a few power outages could occur, according to the NWS.

Motorists should use extra caution when driving, especially if they are driving a high-profile vehicle.
