A Cameron County courthouse bailiff found slumped over in his vehicle at a traffic light on New Year’s Day, is now charged with firing a gun at several habitations that same day.
The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office has charged Armando Lozano, 30, with deadly conduct while the Brownsville Police Department charged him with driving while intoxicated.
Brownsville police initially arrested Lozano after finding him asleep in his gray Toyota Camry in the 100 block of Kings Highway.
After conducting field sobriety tests, police arrested Lozano and a breath sample indicated his blood alcohol levels were higher than twice the legal limit, according to police.
The sheriff’s office said in a news release that investigators learned at about 6 p.m. Sunday of a video posted on Facebook, which showed Lozano firing a gun in the direction of several habitations.
The department opened an investigation and learned Lozano is the bailiff for the 445th state District Court.
On Monday, investigators determined the incident happened at a residence that belonged to one of Lozano’s family members.
“Investigators confirmed the proximity to other habitations including a residence which is just about 42 yards in the direct path from where the weapon was being fired,” the news release stated.
After learning of Lozano’s arrest by Brownsville police, the sheriff’s office obtained an arrest warrant and executed it at about 11:38 a.m. Monday.
“Armando Lozano confessed to … Investigators that on New Year’s Eve he was celebrating, and he discharged his personal firearm 4 times in the direction of several habitations,” the release stated.
Lozano is being held in the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center and is awaiting arraignment. He has already received a $1,000 bond on his DWI charge, according to Brownsville police.
