SAN BENITO — A city official is climbing up in his career.

Martin Saenz, the city’s Community Development Block Grant coordinator, has graduated from the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley’s certified public management program.

On Dec. 12, Saenz graduated during a ceremony at the state’s capitol in Austin.

“The CPM program is a nationally accredited, comprehensive management development program that is designed to enhance the quality and efficiency of management in government and to improve professionalism and effectiveness of government managers,” city spokesman David Favila stated in a press release.

In 2019, Saenz launched his career as administrative assistant to City Manager Manuel De La Rosa before his promotion to executive assistant.

In June, he took the job of Community Development Block Grant coordinator.

A 2008 graduate of San Benito High School, Saenz is a Marine Corps veteran.

“An avid musician, his musical background has been instrumental in negotiations that have brought some top-tier acts to the city’s recent festivals,” Favila stated.
