Pharr police searching for suspect in deadly hit-and-run on Thanksgiving Day

PHARR — Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle who fled the scene after striking and killing a pedestrian on Thanksgiving Day.

Pharr police responded to an auto-pedestrian collision near the intersection of S. Cage Boulevard and Helmer Street in Pharr about 10:14 p.m. Thursday, according to a Friday news release from police.

When officers arrived, they saw a 54-year-old man lying on the roadway.

A witness told police a small, dark passenger vehicle had struck the man and then fled the scene.

The Pharr Fire Department and EMS personnel arrived at the scene and transported the man to McAllen Medical, where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators did not release his identity.

Police are now asking for the help of any resident or business with surveillance video on Cage Boulevard between West Sam Houston Boulevard and Helmer Street.

Body shops are also asked to be on the lookout for a vehicle matching the description with front-end damage.
