Cameron County officials are urging residents to complete an internet survey by the Oct. 28 deadline.

County officials have launched an internet connectivity and broadband project and is inviting all county residents to complete the brief Cameron County Internet Survey and conduct an online speed test.

Residents can conduct the speed test by visiting cameroncountytx.gov or by scanning a QR code contained on a flyer announcing the project.

“Community response will help us identify the current connectivity range by area, and bring affordable and reliable internet our communities need and deserve,” said county public relations officer Melissa Elizardi.

“We know that internet is important and essential to our daily lives, including school, work, telehealth and more.”

A city of Brownsville project to create affordable fiber broadband access to residences and businesses citywide got underway officially in July, with the signing of an agreement between the city, Brownsville Public Utilities Board and Lit Communities to allow the total build-out of fiber infrastructure in Brownsville.

Elizardi said the county is encouraging residents to spread the word about the survey and speed test opportunity, and asks that residents conduct the speed test both at home and at their place of business if applicable.

Oct. 28 is the deadline for completing the survey and conducting the speed test is Oct. 28.
