Brownsville police arrest 2 for street racing at 90 MPH

Abraham Flores and Juan David Rodarte

Brownsville police on Monday morning arrested two men on street racing charges after catching them driving 90 mph on Alton Gloor.

Authorities said via Facebook that Brownsville patrol officers arrested 35-year-old Abraham Flores and 28-year-old Juan David Rodarte at 3:10 a.m. in the 2600 block of Alton Gloor. They were clocked at a high rate of speed prior to their arrests, according to police.

The men grabbed the attention of an officer’s speed radar when he noticed a beige Cadillac Escalade and a white GMC Sierra traveling east on Alton Gloor.

“Both vehicles started to brake on the road and got next to each other. The trucks took off at high speed, trying to out-distance each other,” police said.

The officer conducted a traffic stop once both trucks turned into the 2600 block of Morisson.

The Cadillac, which was driven by Flores, stopped while Rodarte, who was driving the Sierra, continued on Morisson.

“The officer made contact with Flores, the driver of the Escalade. Flores was asked why he was racing,” police said. “Flores replied he was just trying to keep up with his friend.”

Police then arrested Flores and as he was being taken into custody, Rodarte returned to the location.

“BPD Officers made contact with Rodarte,” police said. “Rodarte was asked about the racing to which he did not reply. Rodarte was taken into custody.”

Both men made a first appearance Monday on charges of racing on a highway. Rodarte received a $500 bond while Flores received a $1,000 bond, according to police.
