San Benito man accused of string of burglaries at SpaceX

A 45-year-old man’s attempt to remain off the radar after allegedly burglarizing vehicles at SpaceX last month failed to launch after Cameron County sheriff’s investigators identified him and, on Friday, placed him into custody.

Carlos Trevino, of San Benito, is charged with two counts of burglary of a vehicle, a count of theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of theft of a firearm.

In a statement on Facebook, the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office said investigators accuse Trevino of committing a string of burglaries at SpaceX’s facility off of Boca Chica Beach.

The investigation began on Sept. 13 when SpaceX security guards called deputies to report that several vehicles had been burglaries, which included the theft of two guns.

The security guards also said one vehicle had been stolen.

“Investigators made contact with the owners of the vehicles who wished to pursue charges,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said that Trevino is one of the suspects, though authorities did not disclose how many suspects are being investigated.

A bond has not yet been set for Trevino, who is being held in the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Cameron County.
