The Hidalgo County Community Service Agency is no longer accepting applications for its Low-Income Housing Energy Assistance Program for 2022 due to having exhausted all funding.

According to a news release, the program was designed to assist 6% to 8% of eligible families who have high energy costs, such as electricity or natural gas for their homes.

In order to help families, the agency received $6 million in funds from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

With these funds, the agency assisted over 6,000 families in Hidalgo County.

Although they have exhausted the federal funds, the agency will continue to process completed applications received and utilize alternative funds.

They will also continue to seek additional funding from other resources in order to re-open the program in the future.
