Officers said a 31-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police said he confronted a man for dating his ex-girlfriend.
Josue Maldonado, 31, was taken into custody by the Brownsville Police Department Patrol Division Wednesday at approximately 11:45 p.m. on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, attempted burglary of habitation, and criminal mischief, the police department said in a press release.
Officers responded to the 300 block of Gloria Street, where the victim stated that Maldonado had displayed a gun in an attempt to shoot him, the police press release said. Police said Maldonado arrived at the location in a white Dodge Avenger and started to honk the vehicle’s horn and the victim came out and approached Maldonado’s vehicle.
Maldonado asked the victim if he was dating his ex-girlfriend, to which the victim responded that he was dating her, police said in the release. Police said Maldonado took out a black handgun and pointed it at the victim and the victim feared for his safety and started to go back into the residence. Maldonado then drove his vehicle up the curb and attempted to run over the victim, police said in the release.
The victim managed to return to the residence, and Maldonado got out of the vehicle with a crowbar and started to kick the door in an attempt to make entry but was unsuccessful, police said in the press release.
Maldonado was later arrested in a traffic stop, police said.
