BEST-AFT, the Brownsville Independent School District employees’ organization, will hold a candidate forum for the upcoming BISD Board of Trustees election, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the main branch of the Brownsville Public Library, 2600 Central Blvd.

Candidates in the Nov. 8 school board election will be asked a series of questions about current issues in public education, among them concerning school safety in the aftermath of the May 24 school shooting in Uvalde, Lazaro Cardenas, the group’s communications chairman, said.

Cardenas said questions from BEST-AFT members were vetted through the group’s political action committee and also include BISD policy matters and other issues.

Candidates expected to participate include the three current board of trustees members running for re-election: Drue Brown for Position 1, Denise Garza for Position 2, and Prisci Roca Tipton for Position 4.

Cardenas urged BEST-AFT members and the general public to attend the forum, which will be in the library’s main meeting room.
