Edinburg police: Woman’s death ruled a homicide

Edinburg police opened a homicide investigation into the death of a Mission woman found dead Wednesday.

Maritza Idette Zamora, 28, of Mission, died due to blunt force trauma as indicated by autopsy results, the city said in a news release Thursday.

Zamora was found unresponsive in an apartment in the 3700 block of Sarah Evans Street on Wednesday, according to a news release issued by the city.

Edinburg police units were dispatched to the apartment just after 1 p.m. in response to a welfare concern.

Justice of the Peace Charlie Espinoza pronounced Zamora dead.
