A 67-year-old man pleaded guilty Thursday to selling thousands of rounds of ammunition to a person who was illegally and unlawfully present in the United States.
Daniel Gallegos, the longtime owner and operator of Danny’s Pawn and Sporting Goods in McAllen, admitted he knew the person he sold the ammo to was illegally present in the country.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas said in a news release that Gallegos sold him 280 rounds of .50 BMG caliber ammunition, as well as more than 5,000 rounds of various sizes that ranged from .223 to .50 caliber.
“He provided all of it to someone he knew to be a prohibited person — an individual who was illegally and unlawfully present in the United States — on four separate occasions during 2021,” the release stated.
Gallegos is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ricardo Hinojosa on Oct. 18. He faces up to 10 years in a prison and a possible $10,000 maximum fine.
