The popular home repairs and tools company Harbor Freight will soon hold an official opening in Edinburg.

The company announced Wednesday that it will be opening its 107th store in Texas in August, which will also bring 25 to 30 local job opportunities. The Edinburg location, however, is already advertising outside the store that it’s now open.

The store is located at 2716 S. Expressway 281 in Edinburg and is scheduled to officially open at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. Harbor Freight said in a news release that the store’s hours of operation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The project’s construction costs around $648,617, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and measures 15,000 square feet. The state licensing department also identified the architect as ADA Architects, and the owner of the property as Fairhaven Crossing LTD out of McAllen.

“Our team is ready to serve and deliver value to customers in Edinburg and all of Hidalgo County,” Merced Salinas, store manager, said in the release Wednesday. “At Harbor Freight, we recognize that now, more than ever, our customers depend on us for the tools they need to get the job done at an affordable price.”

Edinburg is currently seeing an increase in sales tax revenue year to year, with $2,732,671.30 collected in May 2022 compared to $2,532,287.09 collected in May 2021.

This is according to the state comptroller’s office’s July report.

Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. said the new business will only further benefit the city’s economy.

“It’s going to have a very positive impact in our city and we appreciate their investment. It is just a reflection of the growth that we’re having and how Edinburg is progressing,” Garza said, adding that the establishment of a Harbor Freight store in Edinburg will provide tools closer to home. The nearest store is in McAllen.

The city also hopes that Harbor Freight’s arrival could signal the community’s ability to attract similar companies from across the county to Edinburg.
