Donna man allegedly stole over $42K of gasoline

Victor Hugo Oviedo

DONNA — Police on Thursday arrested a man who they believe stole over 9,000 gallons in multiple gas thefts over a four-month period at a Stripes here.

Victor Hugo Oviedo, 32, of Donna, allegedly stole the gas from a convenience store located in the 1000 block of W. Frontage Road, according to a news release from police.

The document says Oviedo confessed to being the alleged culprit behind the recent fuel thefts, which police were actively investigating.

According to the release, Oviedo allegedly manipulated fuel pumps at the convenience store in order to obtain fuel at a fraction of the cost.

“Investigators have been able to determine that Oviedo is responsible for stealing at least 9,157 gallons of gasoline, in the city of Donna alone, which is estimated at a value of over $42,000 dollars at the current price of gasoline,” the release said.

Authorities believe Oviedo may be responsible for other fuel thefts in cities around the Rio Grande Valley.

He was expected to appear before a judge Thursday afternoon.
