McAllen man arrested after causing disturbance at local club

Police arrested a McAllen man who was allegedly shouting “white power” and causing a disturbance last week at McAllen business before threatening to shoot officers’ faces with multiple calibers of bullets, according to an affidavit.

Edward Lee Muñoz Gully, 43, is charged with three counts of retaliation or obstruction.

At about 11:29 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to Mamitas at 325 S. 17th Street in reference to a disturbance and came in contact with an employee who stated that an intoxicated man was being belligerent, yelling “white power,” spitting on several people and saying he had guns inside his bag, the document says.

The employee added that Gully was asked to leave the location and described his wardrobe to police in order to be identified.

The responding officer approached Gully, who was walking toward the club again, observed a strong odor of alcohol emitting from Gully’s breath, his bloodshot eyes and slurred speech and determined that because he had caused a disturbance and no one could take care of him he was placed under arrest, according to the affidavit.

The document states that the employee informed the police that they wanted to issue a criminal trespass warning on Gully.

During transport, Gully threatened the officer by stating he has access to a gun and would shoot the officer with a .45 automatic, the affidavit says.

“(Gully) also stated ‘I want to die fighting you guys (in) a gun fight,’” the affidavit said. “(Gully) also stated ‘Would you like me to shoot you at your face with hollow points, I can get the gun, I don’t mind.’”

At the McAllen jail, as Gully was being placed in a padded cell, he began to resist officers’ orders and warned them that he better be placed in a cell alone or he’d fight other inmates, according to the document.

As officers attempted to uncuff Gully, he continued to resist when an officer broke the handcuff key during the process and heard a pop from Gully’s right arm, the affidavit says.

A Med-Care unit transported Gully to Rio Grande Emergency Care to receive medical attention where he continued to threaten officers by stating he wanted to put a .223 and .50 round through their heads and yelled profanities at medical staff, the document reads.

“Mr. Gully got upset to the point that he became confrontational, stood up off the bed and began to yell … ‘Let’s go, bitch,’” the affidavit said. “Mr. Gully stated that since he was already being charged for retaliation, he might as well make it worth it while trying to square off.”

Gully remains jailed on $24,000 in bonds.
