Authorities said a bomb threat at Texas Southmost College was a hoax.

A call was received at 2:44 p.m. Friday that a bomb was inside the Arts and Design building at TSC, said Investigator Martin Sandoval, spokesman for the Brownsville Police Department.

Sandoval said the building and surrounding buildings have been evacuated and search of the building was conducted. It was later determined that the call was a hoax, Sandoval said.

A spokeswoman for TSC said to ensure the safety of our campus community, all occupants within 500 feet of the building were relocated to other locations on campus until BPD who is leading the effort marked the area safe.

BPD and TSC Security have cleared the area so that members of the Scorpion community may return to the affected area on campus, the spokeswoman said.

Brownsville Police Department is leading the investigation on this hoax, TSC reported.

TSC takes all threats seriously as the safety and security of all campus community is of the utmost importance, the college said in a media release.
