Suspect killed in Falfurrias police shootout was wanted for murder in Houston

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Wednesday that the man shot and killed Saturday night in Falfurrias was a Houston murder fugitive.

DPS identified him as William Ivan Cedillos.

Officials opened fire after Cedillos shot at them at about 8:21 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and Terry Street.

Falfurrias police said they had disabled his vehicle with spike strips after he fled a traffic stop.

In the update, DPS said the trooper, who has not been identified, was released from the hospital Monday and is recovering.

Houston police have been looking for Cedillos over the Oct. 20, 2015 killing of 48-year-old Houston resident Todd Delford Duncan.

Police accused Cedillo of shooting Duncan inside a hotel room in Houston, according to a news release.

DPS declined to identify the trooper but said they are stationed out of Corpus Christi.
