Authorities found more than 100 videos of child sexual abuse material on the cellphone of a 33-year-old man arrested on a weapons charge, according to a criminal complaint.

Esteban Luna Caudillo of Mission was arrested Wednesday, May 18, by troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety after finding him with a gun.

Troopers surveilling the area near the Academy Sports and Outdoors, located at 3901 W. Expressway 83 in McAllen, witnessed a “hand-to-hand exchange” between the drivers of a white 2016 Ford Fusion and a black pickup truck, the complaint stated.

DPS was conducting surveillance at that location due to what the complaint described as “multiple criminal arrests” in the area.

The troopers conducted a traffic stop around 2:27 p.m. on the Ford Fusion. The driver was later identified as Caudillo, according to the complaint, which went on to state that they found an AR-15 firearm with a 100-round magazine after Caudillo allowed troopers to search his vehicle.

He was taken into custody for the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Caudillo allowed authorities to search his phone, where they found over 100 videos of child pornography that showed children between the ages 3 and 12 in “various states of undressing and sexual acts,” the complaint stated.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of child pornography. He was booked the same day and is being held on a total of $500,000 in bonds.
