Police arrested a Mercedes ISD teacher charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a student earlier this month on more charges late last week.

Frank Omar Fuentes, a 53 year-old Mission resident, was charged with two counts of indecency with child sexual contact, a second degree felony.

Hidalgo County Jail records indicate Fuentes was booked on May 19 and released the next day on two $250 bonds.

Documents on the district’s website and Fuentes’ Linkedin page indicate he taught social studies at Mercedes High and joined the district in 2016.

The district released a statement addressing Fuentes’ original inappropriate relationship arrest earlier this month saying that it couldn’t comment on the allegations and that “safety and security” is Mercedes ISD’s top priority.

Just over a year ago, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Reyes, a middle school coach at the district, for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Reyes, 53, was subsequently arrested on charges of indecency with a child and sexual assault of a child, charges that sparked an uproar at the district.
