Edinburg man previously arrested for sexually assaulting horses faces bestiality charge

A man who has previously been arrested for sexually assaulting a horse has once again been arrested on a similar charge.

Special rangers from the Texas Cattle Raisers Association arrested 51-year-old Cirilo Castillo on Wednesday.

A number of years have passed since Castillo made national and international headlines for sexually assaulting a horse.

The most recent charge? Bestiality.

The details of the latest arrest aren’t immediately clear, but The Monitor has requested the probable cause affidavit for his arrest.

Castillo was first arrested in 2012 for sexually assaulting a horse and then again in 2013 and 2015.

In the last case, in which he broke his leg during the crime, he was eventually charged with criminal trespass and received five months probation.

The 2013 case brought a sentence of five years probation and 77 days jail credit on a charge of cruelty to animals. That indictment said he tied the horse to a fence before sexually assaulting the animal.

After his 2012 arrest, The Monitor reported that he admitted to sexually assaulting two horses on separate occasions.

He was charged with animal cruelty complaints, which were eventually dismissed.

As of Thursday morning, a bond had not yet been set and he remained in the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center.
