‘Bored Dude’ indicted over allegations he sought sex with 9-year-old

A 19-year-old San Juan man who was accused of seeking sex with children on two occasions and sharing child pornography was indicted Tuesday.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release that Jorge Eduardo Naranjo was communicating with someone he believed had a 9-year-old child via the social media app Kik. Naranjo was operating multiple accounts under the name “Bored Dude” and distributing files of child pornography. On one occasion, he requested to meet with an individual’s “little,” according to a criminal complaint.

Jorge Eduardo Naranjo’s Kik profile picture was a photo of the McAllen Convention Center, according to the criminal complaint.

Naranjo was originally charged by criminal complaint, but a federal grand jury returned the single-count indictment against Naranjo on Tuesday.

The FBI arrested him March 28 after he allegedly traveled to an Edinburg hotel to have sex with a 9-year-old child. Federal authorities said he had sent multiple messages clarifying his intent to sexually abuse the child.

Authorities took him into custody as soon as he arrived. He later told investigators he had also sought to have sex with a 6-year-old, but his account had been banned by Kik.

During an interview with special agents, the complaint says Naranjo confessed and said if he ever had a daughter, he would likely sexually abuse her.

Naranjo was deemed a danger to the community during his detention hearing and was ordered into custody pending future criminal proceedings.

The order also notes that Naranjo had been employed at a “baby store” for more than a year and that he has expressed a current suicidal ideation.

“Because of this conduct, coupled with the type of offense alleged, the Court finds that there are no conditions or a combination of conditions that would reasonably assure the appearance at future court proceedings as well as the safety of the community,” the order said.
