The Episcopal Day School held its annual art show, this year titled “Art Makes the World a Happy Place,” a showcase for the artwork of 1st- through 3rd-grade students and a chance to welcome parents.

The tradition started in 2017 but had been dormant the past two years because of the pandemic. It also served as a fundraiser, with all of the money collected going back to purchase art supplies for the program, Ana Laura Garcia, EDS early childhood director and kindergarten teacher, said.

“This was a great way to welcome our parents back to see our young artists and ask them questions,” she said. “Each grade level is responsible for learning about particular master artists such as Picasso, Salvador Dali, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Jackson Pollock, to name a few.”

The children learn about the techniques each artist used and a little bit of background about each. Then they create their own masterpieces using either the techniques of the artist or just inspiration, she said.
