Hidalgo County COVID activity remains low, daily report shows

Hidalgo County reported five new COVID-19 cases with one additional virus-related death as of Friday.

A Pharr man in his 40s died due to the virus. According to the county news release he was not vaccinated.

His death raised the toll to 3,891.

As of Friday morning, there are 46 people hospitalized. Of those hospitalized eight are pediatric patients and 10 are in intensive care units.

The new case raised the overall toll since the start of the pandemic to 197,690.

According to the release, there were no new cases among schools’ staff, however there are six new cases among students.

In Cameron County, officials there confirmed 13 new cases Friday, and no new deaths. This leaves the death toll in the county at 2,227.
