An 18-year-old man charged in the abduction of a Brownsville teenager remains in custody of local authorities following his arraignment on charges of aggravated kidnapping and trafficking a person.
Brownsville police report that Clayton Phillips was arraigned Wednesday morning on the charges and his bonds total $575,000.

Phillips had been extradited to Cameron County following his arrest on Sunday by Mansfield police officers. He had been held in Tarrant County.
Brownsville police received a call about 3:46 p.m. Saturday that the teenage girl was missing and it was believed that Phillips had taken her.
An Amber Alert had later been issued.
The vehicle in which they were riding in – a brown Kia Optima -was located in San Antonio and Phillips was taken into custody.
Investigator Martin Sandoval, spokesman for the Brownsville PD, said the two met on a yet to be determined social media site.
The girl made an outcry to her mother who contacted police. Because the girl is still a minor and not old enough to consent to have a relationship with an adult, the charges filed against Phillips went from kidnapping to aggravated kidnapping and human trafficking, Sandoval said.
Sandoval added that Brownsville police are working with other agencies to determine if additional charges could be filed against Phillips.
