Cold front to bring cooler weather to the RGV

Some cooler weather is headed for the Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday, as another cold front will pass through the area.

The National Weather Service in Brownsville reports the cold front will start to make its way through the Valley Wednesday afternoon ushering in breezy north winds and cooler temperatures.

There’s a 20 % chance of thunderstorms Wednesday with highs in the upper 80s. The temperatures will begin to drop in the afternoon.

Wednesday night lows will be in the 50s and there’s a 60 % chance of rain.

Thursday’s highs will likely reach the low the middle 60s, the NWS reports. This will be 20 to 25 degrees cooler than Wednesday’s high temperatures. There’s also a 40% chance of rain.

The NWS reports breezy north winds will impact much of the Valley with the strongest winds near the coast.

The winds could make driving on the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway difficult Wednesday night through Thursday. There’s also a chance of coastal flooding Thursday through the weekend.

The NWS reports tidal runup to the dunes is possible at times of astronomical high tide this weekend. Narrow beaches may be difficult or event impossible to drive across.

There’s a chance for coastal flooding that may lead to elevated water levels across the Laguna Madre and South Bay, and along State Highway 4 west of Boca Chica State Park, the NWS reports.
