Sheriff’s office investigating Edinburg shooting

EDINBURG — The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that happened in rural Edinburg on Tuesday evening and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the individuals involved.

According to a release, the office received several 9-1-1 calls about a deadly conduct incident that occurred east of Farm-to-Market 493 on Mile 16 North Road.

“Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies met with several witnesses who reported seeing the occupants of two vehicles shooting at each other on the roadway, before driving away at a high rate of speed,” the release stated. “The area was canvassed for potential victims but none were located.”

Later that evening, an adult man who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest arrived at the McAllen Medical Center, the release said. The man underwent surgery and his condition was listed as critical.

“Sheriff’s investigators are currently working to confirm if the two incidents are linked,” the release stated.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the incident to bring their information forward. If that information leads to an arrest, the caller may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
