Pre-registration is underway for a first-dose COVID-19 Moderna vaccine clinic scheduled for Thursday morning.
According to a news release, 1,500 vaccines will be available at the clinic, which will be hosted by the city of McAllen, McAllen ISD and Hidalgo County at the McAllen Convention Center, located at 700 Convention Center Boulevard, beginning at 8 a.m.
The first dose of the vaccine will be available to individuals who qualify under Tier 1A, Tier 1B, Tier 1C, as well as School and Licensed Child Care Personnel.
Pre-registration began at 9 a.m. Wednesday via drive-thru at the McAllen Performing Arts Center Parking Lot and online, but was switched to in-person only after online registration reached capacity.
Anyone who pre-registers in person must bring ID and proof of medical condition (current medication, a prescription from their doctor), bring a clearance letter from their physician, and a work ID or other proof of employment. People are encouraged to bring water and snacks since there could be long wait times. Children 18 and under should not be in the clinic, and anyone with mobility concerns may bring one person to help them.
Entrance for onsite registration is on Ithaca and 29th Street. Face masks are required. Anyone who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, have been directly exposed to someone who has tested positive or pending COVID-19 test results is encouraged not to attend the onsite pre-registration.
NOTE: This story has been updated to reflect the ending of online registration.
