A mattress that became lodged under a tractor-trailer Tuesday morning sparked the fire that completely burned the vehicle.

The Edinburg Police Department said on Facebook that firefighters knocked the blaze down and that the driver of the tractor-trailer escaped injury.

City spokesperson Ashly Custer said police believe the mattress flew off another vehicle and became lodged under the trailer.

The lanes of northbound Highway 281 near Alberta Road were briefly shutdown.

By noon, Custer said two lanes on the highway were open in the area and vehicles were no longer being redirected.

The incident remains under investigation.
