Hidalgo County reported eight additional deaths related to COVID-19 Monday along with 156 new cases of the virus.
The county reported 81 of the new cases as confirmed, 67 as probable and eight as suspected, bringing the total for the county to 78,926 cases, 51,713 of which are confirmed, 25,998 probable and 1,215 suspected.
The eight fatalities were all above the age of 60, three men and five women. They lived in Edinburg, McAllen, Mercedes, Mission and an undisclosed location.
The county reported 167 individuals in county hospitals with the virus, 79 of them in intensive care units.
