7 more COVID-19 deaths reported in Hidalgo County

Almost half of the new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Hidalgo County on Tuesday were of residents in their 20s or younger.

Along with seven more deaths linked to the virus, the county reported 390 new cases on Tuesday. About 48% of them, or 189 people, were in their 20s or younger.

More specifically, 11% of the new cases were of Mission residents in their 20s or younger.

The death toll in the county is now at 2,654, while the total case count stands at 77,702.

The youngest among the deaths was a Mission man in his 30s, according to the release Tuesday.

Of the new cases, 78 were confirmed, 249 probable and 63 suspected.

Also on Tuesday, 291 people were reported to have been released from isolation due to COVID-19, leaving 2,230 active cases in the county. A total of 72,827 people have recovered from the virus.

There are currently 184 people fighting the virus in local hospitals, of which 89 are in intensive care units.
