Edcouch police make arrest in Friday stabbing

Edcouch police say a 25-year-old man stabbed another man three times last Friday after an argument over drugs.

Daniel Vasquez Jr. is charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, aggravated robbery and possession of marijuana (less than 2 ounces), jail records show.

The department said on Facebook that police there responded to a stabbing in the 900 block of west Crenshaw Street at about 8:45 p.m., when officers found a man who was covered in blood and holding a towel to his abdomen.

Police learned that a suspect, identified as Vasquez, fled the scene before police arrived, but he did not get far, according to authorities.

“A short time later officers received information that the suspect was seen around the 400 block (of West) Crenshaw,” police said on social media.

Officers found Vasquez hiding in a shed and arrested him, according to authorities.

“Further investigation revealed both men knew each other and the incident stemmed from an argument over illegal drugs. At some point during the argument Vasquez pulled a knife out and stabbed the victim approximately 3 times,” police said.

Authorities further allege that Vasquez robbed the man before fleeing the scene.

“The victim was airlifted to the hospital where he underwent surgery and is now recovering,” police said.
