MISSION — The city will open a shelter on Saturday, when the wind chill temperature is expected to dip into the 20s, city officials announced in a news release Thursday.

The cold weather shelter will open at the Mission Parks & Recreation building, 721 N. Bryan Road, at 3 p.m. Saturday, and will be open until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

“The location will be available to anyone in need of safe, warm shelter,” officials said in the news release.

Residents are asked to pack a blanket, pillow, medication, personal identification, toiletry items and snacks.

The temporary shelter will adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols and will screen guests for COVID-19 symptoms and check their temperature. Staff will also make accommodations to allow for physical distancing.
