Mission hosting vaccination clinic

A community vaccination clinic in Mission will begin issuing wristbands at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sharyland High School.

Eligible residents will be receiving 875 doses of the COVID-19 Moderna vaccine the following day, Thursday, Feb. 4.

To pre-register, residents must report to the north side entrance of Sharyland High School at 1216 N. Shary Road. As a COVID-19 precaution, residents are advised to take their own pen and wear face masks at all times when interacting with the staff in the registration area.

A colored wristband will be shared with eligible residents. The color-coded band will indicate the time for them to return to the Mission Event Center at 2425 Ruby Red Blvd. on Thursday for their vaccinations.

Patrons will only be allowed into the parking area at the vaccination site 30 minutes before their designated time slots on Thursday.

The clinic will be targeting healthcare workers, people 65 years of age and older, and people between the ages of 18 and 65 who have at least one chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk for severe illness from the virus that causes COVID-19, such as, but not limited to: cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies, solid organ transplantation, obesity and severe obesity (body mass index of 30 kg/m2 or higher), pregnancy, sickle cell disease, or Type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Residents must take a photo ID. They’re recommended to take proof of medical conditions, like a prescription for a current medication, if they are between the ages of 18 and 65.

Pregnant or lactating women or anyone who has cancer or is undergoing any immunosuppressive treatment or medication must bring a US doctor’s notice allowing them to receive the vaccine.

Snacks and water are encouraged to help during the long waiting periods. Children are not allowed in the clinic.

Those who have mobility problems are allowed to take one person inside the clinic to assist them.

The clinic will be held in partnership between Hidalgo County, the City of Mission, Hidalgo County Precinct 3 Commissioner’s Office, Mission Consolidated Independent School District and the Sharyland Independent School District.
