Sixteen deaths due to COVID-19 across the Rio Grande Valley were reported on Tuesday, along with 842 new cases.
Ten of those deaths along with 547 new cases were confirmed in Hidalgo County.
The county’s death toll is now 2,218, and total cases stand at 52,657, according to a county news release.
Of the new cases, 373 are confirmed, 173 probable and one suspected.
County officials also reported 884 people were released from isolation on Tuesday, leaving 1,801 active cases in the county. So far, 48,683 people from the county have recovered from the virus.
There are currently 367 people with COVID-19 in local hospitals, of which 131 are in intensive care units.
Neighboring Cameron County confirmed six additional deaths linked to the virus, bringing the death toll there to 1,198, according to a county release.
The county also announced 173 new cases, raising that total to 30,467.
Additionally, 198 were reported to have recovered from COVID-19 on Tuesday. There have now been 25,751 people who have recovered from the virus in the county.
Also on Tuesday, officials in Starr County reported 106 more cases of the virus, bringing the total number of active cases to 590.
They also confirmed that 5,002 people have recovered from COVID-19 while 204 have died.
Willacy County announced 16 new cases of the virus on Tuesday, according to a county release, bringing the total there to 1,683.
