Cameron County launches fraud alert service

The Cameron County Clerk’s Office has launched the “Real Property Fraud Alert Service,” a new free service to combat property fraud that allows property owners to have their name and property monitored to track possible fraudulent activity.

“The new Property Fraud Alert will enable users in Cameron County to proactively respond to potentially fraudulent activity involving their property,” a press release reads.

“Subscribers will be notified when the name or property legal description they have submitted to the alert system is used in any recording activities with the Cameron County Clerk’s Office.The service is quick and easy to sign up for, and provides peace of mind to property owners.”

Cameron County property owners can subscribe to the free service by visiting the public search website and clicking on the Fraud Alert link at: https://cameron.tx.publicsearch.us/.

“A subscriber can verify the information received via al alert and view the actual document that was recorded by visiting the Cameron County Clerk Public Portal at: : https://cameron.tx.publicsearch.us/. The Public Portal is available 24/7,” the press release reads.

In a flier by Cameron County Clerk Sylvia Garza-Perez, she said real property fraud is a fast-growing crime as damaging as identity theft with the added risk of losing your property.

“Cameron County and the County Clerk are introducing Vanguard Property Alert, a free real property fraud alert system,” the flier reads.

“After creating an alert record, you will receive email notifications anytime a document is recorded against your property or name.”
