A 72-year-old man was arrested Wednesday when federal agents say he tried to smuggle nearly $3 million in methamphetamine at a Brownsville international bridge.
In a news release, U.S. Customs and Border Protection says officers at the B&M International Bridge asked the Mexican national to undergo a secondary inspection of his 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe.
During the imaging scan and with the help of a canine unit, officers say they found eight large plastic buckets in the SUV that held more than 137 pounds of meth.
The methamphetamine has a reported street value of $2,751,341.
The driver was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents. CBP seized the SUV and drugs.
