The City of Brownsville will livestream BTX Cares Talks to discuss hurricane preparedness and what officials are doing to prepare at 10 a.m. today, on the City of Brownsville Facebook page.
The livestream will be moderated by KRGV Chief Meteorologist Tim Smith and will feature guest speakers from the City of Brownsville, Cameron County and the National Weather Service Brownsville/RGV TX.
City employees participating in this morning’s event are Mayor Trey Mendez, Engineering and Public Works Director Armando Gutierrez and Emergency Management Coordinator Odee Leal.
Also participating are Cameron County Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Hushen and Barry Goldsmith, of the National Weather Service in Brownsville.
The 2020 Atlantic Hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.
Hurricane forecasters have predicted an above normal season this year. Gerry Bell, lead hurricane season forecaster with NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, said to expect 13 to 19 named storms, six to 10 hurricanes and three to six major hurricanes during the Atlantic hurricane season.
An average hurricane season consists of 12 named storms, six hurricanes and three major hurricanes.
