BPUB employee tests positive for COVID-19

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) says that one of its employees tested positive for COVID-19.

In a news release, the company says the employee was working remotely and was last in a BPUB facility on April 16. The positive result was confirmed Friday, June 12. Because of privacy laws, BPUB will not release specific details about the employee.

BPUB says wants to reassure its customers that the employee is under quarantine and being monitored. A detailed contact tracing is being performed by health officials to identify others who may have come in contact with the infected employee.

Many departments are working from remote locations until the pandemic eases. BPUB offices have been closed to visitors and customers since March 17, but drive-thru lanes are available for customers wishing to make payments.
