SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer in the Laguna Madre area.
As Texas officials continue to make easements on restrictions set in place due to the coronavirus pandemic, businesses have slowly started expanding its services and amenities.
Louie’s Backyard will host a firework show over the Laguna Madre Bay every Tuesday starting at 9:15 p.m.
Before watching the fireworks, patrons of Louie’s Backyard can watch the sunset while dining at the restaurant’s all-you-can-eat prime rib and seafood buffet that opens at 5 p.m.
Additionally, Louie’s Backyard will have live performances during the week by artists such as Leslie, J Michael Laferty, Toby Beau, Nathan Hubble and Danica.

Not only will Island residents and visitors be able to watch firework shows over the bay.
They’ll also be able to watch firework shows at the beach.
Clayton’s Beach Bar and Grill will have live music and a firework show every Friday and Saturday night.
The firework shows start at 9 p.m.
The City of South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) sponsors three firework shows a year on Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day.
According to CVB executive director Ed Caum, the State of Texas has declared South Padre Island the “Fireworks Capital of Texas.”
“Historically, our three big shows see upwards of 50,000 each,” he said. “Many are visitors staying on the island for the long weekends, but we do have our Valley neighbors that come out just for the fireworks.”
According to Caum, the estimated number of people on the Island during Memorial Day this year was close to 67,000.
“Fireworks are a definite attraction for people who come to the island on vacation,” he said. “The City of South Padre Island encourages the safe viewing of fireworks and practicing social distancing during these events.”
