Stabbing victim in Edinburg hotel incident dies

EDINBURG — A man is dead and two men are in custody following a stabbing and shooting incident at a local hotel Wednesday afternoon.

The Edinburg Police Department have yet to identify any of the involved parties, but confirmed Thursday that the man stabbed Wednesday at the Texas Inn on East Canton Road has died.

Two men who suffered gunshot wounds were treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries before being released to police custody.

One man involved in the shooting remains at large.

Police received a call at 3:27 p.m. Wednesday about an incident in the 1200 block of East Canton Road.

“We had a disturbance there at the motel, and preliminary information shows that there were two people that were shot and one was stabbed,” Chief Cesar Torres said Wednesday. “One of them is in critical condition. We’re currently interviewing people. It’s an active investigation.”

“As a result of that investigation, we did have a high speed chase involving an individual that was involved in that incident,” Torres continued. “That resulted in a minor accident.”

Torres could not confirm if the driver of the vehicle was apprehended.

“You can call it an isolated incident, because that’s exactly what it is,” Torres said.

Edinburg police are not releasing the victim’s name at this time as next of kin is still being notified.

Police say no other information will be released as the investigation is ongoing.
