MISSION — Police here are investigating a possible drowning after a man’s body was found floating in a local canal early this morning.
There appears to be no foul play, according to spokesman Lt. Jody Tittle, who said the adult male “appears to possibly be undocumented.”
Mission police received a call at approximately 8:17 a.m. Wednesday alerting them of a body in the canal in the 1800 block of River Bend Drive. The canal flows into the Rio Grande.
Tittle said it’s common for bodies to float down river to the Mission area.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine cause of death.
The man had a wallet on him, but police did not want to disturb the contents so will have it reviewed by the forensic examiner.
