Edinburg hires McAllen grants director as assistant city manager

The city of Edinburg has hired Carla M. Rodriguez, grants director at the city of McAllen, to be its new assistant city manager.

After 17 years with McAllen, Rodriguez’s last day will be Friday, according to McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez.

Edinburg currently has one assistant city manager, Sonia Marroquin. Carla Rodriguez will join her as a second assistant city manager, according to Public Information Director Cary Zayas.

This marks McAllen’s second department head departure in recent months. Former Convention Center Director Omar Rodriguez and the city parted ways in March.

Carla Rodriguez will join a politically turbulent Edinburg, which has seen the legitimacy of its November 2017 municipal election called into question. The Texas Rangers last week arrested four people on voter fraud charges.

The Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office are also investigating the case.

“We wish her the best,” Roel “Roy” Rodriguez said.
