Vice President’s office confirms Pence’s border tour in Rio Grande Valley

McALLEN — Vice President Mike Pence’s office confirmed he will tour the U.S.-Mexico border in the Rio Grande Valley on Friday, as The Monitor reported on Tuesday.

Pence will be joined by Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz for “an operational tour of the U.S.-Mexico border,” according to a White House official.

Pence and Nielsen will then meet with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to discuss “the need to secure America’s borders and updates on the infrastructure and technology used to build the wall,” the official said.

Border Patrol RGV Sector Chief Manuel Padilla is expected to be involved in the visit.

Prior to arriving in the Valley Friday afternoon, Pence will be in San Antonio providing keynote remarks at a fundraiser for Trump Victory, an organization that benefits President Donald Trump’s re-election and the Republican National Committee.

Following his Valley visit, Pence will spend Saturday in Dallas at a tax reform event, followed by a keynote address at the Dallas County GOP’s Reagan Day Dinner.
